The Selig Center at the University of Georgia publishes business data specific to Georgia. Also links to the Georgia 2000 Information System, a free source of Georgia-specific data obtained from the U.S. Census. Another source of local data is the Georgia LaborMarket Explorer site, which also has some historical data.
The Monthly Labor Review, from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, has articles on the labor force, the economy, employment, inflation, productivity, occupational injuries and illnesses, wages, prices, and much more.
Current Employment Statistics. The program is a monthly survey conducted by State employment security agencies in cooperation with the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The survey provides employment, hours and earnings estimates based on payroll records of business establishments. Its findings are released monthly as the publication Employment & Earnings.
National Compensation Survey site, providing data on occupational earnings, compensation cost trends, benefit incidence, and detailed plan provisions. Detailed occupational earnings are available for broad geographic regions and public/private sectors. The index component of the NCS (ECI) measures changes in labor costs. Average hourly employer cost for employee compensation is presented in the ECEC.
OSHA's Small Business Compliance Assistance page, with information
specifically geared to help small businesses establish safety and health
programs and find and fix hazards to prevent workplace injuries and
illnesses. Includes information about its free and confidential consultation service.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Small Business Environmental home page can help businesses learn about environmental regulations that may affect them and find funding for good environmental practices. Links to Compliance Assistance Centers and to industry-specific Best Management Practices.

Small Business Economy Report to the President
Annual report since 1982 serves as a reference source for data and analysis of small business' performance in the current economy. There is also the option of a 2-page Research Summary. The library has hardcopy of this document from 1982-2000.
Small Business Profiles / State Economic Profiles
Concise state data. Includes number of businesses, demographics of their owners, statistics on turnover, employment, income, lenders, job gains and losses. This website includes reports for the five most recent years for all states and territories.
Banking Studies: Small Business Lending in the U.S.
Annually, SBA's Office of Advocacy provides a state-by-state ranking of lending activities of commercial banks and other depository institutions.
